INTRODUCTIONS
Ukrainian Music Initiative at All Souls NYC
Last week pianist Pavlo Gintov wrote:
There is an abundance of remarkable music by Ukrainian composers
across every style and genre,
much of which still awaits rediscovery and wider recognition.
I'm continually struck with
surprise and admiration as I uncover these hidden gems for myself.
What a tremendous privilege and joy for Ukrainian Music Initiative to
share a selection of these hidden gems at All Souls NYC,
a beautiful space with stunning acoustics.
Cellist Valeriya Sholokhova wrote:
It is deeply personal for me to perform the
music of Ukrainian composers, both past and present.
Valentin Silvestrov's Postlude No. 3 will always live in my memory as the work Margarita and I performed just three days after the
start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Its hopeful, luminous melody became forever intertwined with the images of destruction we were witnessing from Ukraine -
a reminder of the country's essence, its potential, and the
future we continue to fight for.
Ukrainian Music Initiative is immensely grateful to
All Souls NYC for its partnership,
to Self Reliance Financial Federal Credit Union for its sponsorship and
to Sunday's audience for attending with open ears and hearts.
Thank you for joining Ukrainian Music Initiative in
honoring the work of Ukrainian composers!
