Hudson in Concert: A Community Celebration!
Saturday, September 13th at 6pm
Hudson Festival Orchestra
contralto Vira Slywotzky, soloist
Henry Hudson Riverfront Park
Hudson, NY 12534
Hudson Festival Orchestra's yearly performance on the waterfront is
a community celebration and a celebration of community.
Artistic Director Gwen Gould and her team draw an enthusiastic crowd
that revels in the work of local and global performers,
from world-renowned Syrian clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh
to the area students who join their mentors for the final two numbers as part of the
"Take a Seat...in the Orchestra" program.
Under the baton of Dávid Bánóczi-Ruof I will be performing:
"Va, l'error mio palesa" / "Go, my mistake is clear"
from the opera Mitridate
Mozart was 14 years old when he wrote this piece and may very well have imbued Farnace,
the teenage prince I'll be portraying,
with the fury and hurt of adolescence that he was experiencing himself.
"In Haven" from Sea Pictures
Composer Edward Elgar set the poetry of his wife,
Caroline Alice Elgar, in this lilting song of love.
(Lady Elgar was nearly a decade older than Sir Elgar.)
“Я не молюсь давно” / “I have not prayed in a long time”
In this gem of a song, created in defiance of Soviet dictates,
composer Pavlo Senytsia elegantly illustrates a surprising text by Mykola Filiansky.
Finding the Heavens silent, the speaker discovers God in the beauty of the earth.
We will perform a new orchestral arrangement by Dávid.
“Ви, музики, грайтє” / “You, musicians, play”
from
Five Ukrainian Folksongs for Voice and Orchestra
by Yuliy Meitus
Meitus uses the full color palette an orchestra affords
to embellish this rousing call to dance.
